What’s soft, sweet, and pink all over?  We’ll give you a clue –– it starts with cotton and ends with candy!  This pink, fluffy and sweet stuff is really something from out of this world.  Cotton candy has such a unique texture, taste and touch that there’s really nothing else that can relate.

Cotton candy is just like Peekaboo Ice Cream –– fun, up-beat, and adds something different to the foodie mix.  We love cotton candy so much that we actually dedicated one of our first Peekaboo Ice Cream Flavors to the treat.  Not only is our Peekaboo Cotton Candy Ice Cream a delicious crowd-favorite, but it makes the perfect pair with sweet beets, so that there’s veggies hidden in every bite.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Cotton candy is also called candy floss or fairy floss? While you may not be able to floss your teeth with it, this fun treat has made a name for itself around the world.

We can’t help but recognize and celebrate National Cotton Candy Day.  Our love for the pink fluff cannot go unnoticed.

The History of Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy has a long history, dating way back to the 1800’s when it was first called spun sugar. A very labor-intensive treat to make, spun sugar was often saved for special occasions. In 1897, William Morrison (a dentist –– how ironic), and confectioner John C. Wharton created and introduced the first machine-spun cotton candy at the World’s Fair in 1904. Dubbed ‘fairy floss’, the public loved it, purchasing over 68,000 boxes at 25 cents a box.

With the invention of the machine and the success of the fair, cotton candy quickly became a staple for the young and old alike at carnivals, fairs, circuses and any other public event that involved food. Fast forward a few hundred years, and this sweet delight gets its own holiday, December 7th, National Cotton Candy Day.

Enjoy the Carnival Confection

We associate cotton candy with fall festivals, country fairs, baseball games and sweet memories from childhood. To commemorate our favorite candy treat, we combined the flavor with our favorite dessert, ice cream. Then, we threw in some Peekaboo personality and added veggies to create our cotton candy ice cream flavor.

Our Peekaboo Cotton Candy Ice Cream with Hidden Beets will take you on a trip down memory lane with the beloved carnival confection, while eating your favorite ice cream dessert and adding a serving of vegetables to your diet.  Now that is what we call a dessert revolution.

Hidden Beets, So Sweet

Beets you say? Beets are a great source of vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, folate, potassium manganese, copper, magnesium and iron. Because of their sweet flavor and naturally pink color, it’s a sweet, fun and totally delicious match for cotton candy.

Peekaboo Cotton Candy Ice Cream with Hidden Beets is a great way to celebrate National Cotton Candy Day. Shop for your celebratory pints in-store or online here.
